What Interests You?

What actually interests you, and why?

Does it actually mean to be interested? And where does this come from?

I suppose we are interested in that which we are curious about. and what are we curious about?

In someways, we are curious about novelty and the new. I know when I was personally in college, and I got into photography, and I will look at all these famous Street photos from history, I was curious what it was like to travel the world, and live this romantic photographic lifestyle.

Taking it back even further, when I was in middle school and high school, before I got into photography, I was really entertained by Maddox (One of the OG comedy bloggers). I loved his societal criticism, critique, and commentary, and I aspired to do the same. I can recall doing my own style of Maddox-like blogging and writing when I was a sophomore in high school.

Therefore one theory I have is we are interested in that which entertains us. And that we strive and emulate to do the same.

Therefore when it came to all these famous street photos of history, like the street photographs of Henri Cartier Bresson, because I loved the photos so much and was enthralled by them, I aspired to make similar photos, and I aspired to have the certain type of life in order to do the same.

What do you do once you’ve achieved all of your dreams?

Currently, I am in a funny and precarious position. More or less, I’ve accomplished all of my life dreams. A thought: perhaps dreams are bad, because they are dead ends, or cul-de-sacs of the mind and ambition.

So what now?

Now that I am currently more or less, financially independent, retired, and wealthy, life is all upside from here on.

The first order of things is philosophical. For me to use my privileged position in order to challenge certain conventional thoughts, and to use my own life of self experimentation to create new sources of ideas, and hope that these ideas can be of use to humanity.

The second order of things is for my wife and son. To help turbocharge Cindy as much as humanly possible, and then also to help give wings to my son Seneca.

The third order of things is to help inspire, motivate, and lend and share ideas with others. For me to best propagate my ideas with others, and to teach and transmit lessons with others which I’ve learned on my own. Ideas which I have benefited from, or things which have benefited me, and then sharing those benefits with others.

Is curiosity overrated?

Truth be told, nowadays I’m actually not that curious about many things. Maybe the only thing I’m kind of curious about is what it is like to own a Lamborghini with scissor doors. But, nowadays I have enough intelligence and wisdom to know what it would actually be like.

Open mind, open approach

No I suppose that honestly, maybe the best is for me to just have the ultimate open minded approach. The only challenges I have for myself include walking at least 30,000 steps a day. I have found that walking that much has helped me come up with even more creative ideas, for me to flush out certain other thoughts, and for me to also be exposed to things in embodied reality which I find personally interesting.

Also as of late, I really enjoy going on hikes, and going on nature walks. I also just learned that the word hike means to walk vigorously.

Therefore, ironically enough it seems that the solution and approach to life is best addressed with walking, walking more or at least walking in more challenging an interesting forms of terrain.

I’ve also learned that the quality of the step is which matters, not just the quantity. For example, 10,000 steps in uneven terrain going up and down a hill or mountain is very different than just walking 10,000 steps on flat surfaces. If anything, purely flat surfaces are bad.

Maximal human thriving

When I was younger, one of my strong desires was to become self-employed, and eventually not need to work and or to make a living. Becoming rich and having a lot of money never interested me, even as a middle schooler and high schooler. I was always more interested in things like working on my car and modifying my car, having fun with my friends, going on adventures, physical exercise, travel, and new experiences.

And now, I believe it to be my life mission to figure out how humans can best thrive. For us to extract the maximum out of embodied reality, life and existence.
