What Does it Mean to Become a Successful Photographer?
It seems one of the things we are chasing:
To become a ‘successful’ photographer.
But what does this even mean?

What is ‘success’?
‘Succedo‘ from Latin — to climb, mount, ascend, advance. Etymology as sub+cedo — from below, to climb over.
So in some ways, ‘to start from the bottom (the mud) and to make it to the top’, or at least knowing you’re advancing. Think of the Drake song, “We started from the bottom now we’re here”.
But what do you do once you’ve arrived at the top?
No this is the billion dollar question, that is, what do you do once you made it to the top?
that is, when you achieved all worldly forms of success like fame, influence, reach, money, and external validation? Then perhaps it is good for us to think about powerlifters or mountain climbers, that is what do you do once you’re at the top of Mount Everest?
For example, if your Eddie Hall and your deadlifted 500 kg, then what? Then the goal is to deadlift 505 kg, or to create some sort of new difficulties obstacles and challenges for yourself.
And this is the important part, in which the goals you got aren’t external, they’re all internal. Then you have the power to dictate your own future and legacy.
So then to answer my initial question, success is an active verb, or a process of becoming. A process of becoming more. Thus success should not be seen as a final state, like a binary 0 to 1.
Success is a process of becoming striving for more.
