What’s the Future for Photography?
Currently reading the ‘What happened to the future?’ essay on Founders Fund, and trying to think:
What is the future of photography?
If we progress on the current line, it will look something like:
- More and more people will use Instagram, people will increasingly get addicted to it, upload more photos to it.
- Fewer and fewer people will start their own websites and blogs [this means, more and more power consolidated to Facebook/Instagram, less and less power to the individual].
- More and more people use iPhones to make photos. Standalone digital cameras will continue to exist, but for a small niche of hobbyist/passion photographers. More advances in digital medium format, the shrinking of size for digital cameras.
Seems pretty basic.
Audacious futures for photography
I desire to propose more epic futures of photography. My ideal vision:
- More creators, who create their own websites, blogs, and platforms.
- Photographers who consider themselves artists/visual-artists. Increased self-esteem and power for photographers.
- Innovative ways of publishing photos; through blogs, digital ebook PDF’s [using iBooks Author or Adobe Indesign/Affinity Designer]. Beyond the basicness of simply uploading photos to Facebook or Instagram.
- Photographers to truly help and empower other photographers to grow in their visual artistry. The growth of ARS and improved constructive critique giving in the photo community.
- Better cameras and simpler tools for photographers. The huge innovation of RICOH GR III [phenomenal image quality, in an even smaller camera body].
- A focus and trend on aesthetics in photography, not ‘image quality‘.
Build your ideal vision of the future
Better to be insanely bold, audacious, and ‘insane’, than to be basic.
Let us think BEYOND BASIC; let us advance ourselves, human-kind, and build the ideal future we desire!
