Life is about growth. Our passion is photography and visual arts. How can we optimize our own artistic growth in photography and beyond?
What is Growth?
Growth:
Becoming stronger, becoming bigger, become more powerful, becoming taller, extending your reach.
It seems that life operates on this growth principle.
What is the opposite of growth? Degeneration. Getting smaller. Getting weaker. Becoming more meek.
Why grow? It seems there is no other option!
How to grow
To grow as a photographer and visual artist:
To continue to make new photos, to gain influence, to evolve in your philosophy of aesthetics, to dig your creative roots deeper, to become more multifarious.
Creative roots
A tree grows bigger by gaining more nutrition from the earth and the sky.
Perhaps we can be the same. We gain inspiration from (a few) great individuals from the past. My theory:
Better to discover inspiration from a few heroes very very well, than to discover inspiration from a lot of random people.
For example my heroes include Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Seneca, Nassim Taleb, Nietzsche, Kanye West, JAY Z. I have consumed all of their books, information, music, and try to embody them deeply.
And of course, you must have the courage, confidence, and audacity to pursue your own course in life. Your heroes will only get you so far. You must discover inspiration from them, but not try to become them. Your goal is to become yourself to the fullest apex!
