1. Why romanticize the past?

The foolish mistake we make is wishing we were born in the past.

We look at the old photos of the past, and think to ourselves, “Things were so much more interesting back then. Now, everything is so boring.”

In reality, things in the past were boring. But the only reason why old photographs look interesting is because of this novelty of nostalgia for the past.

2. You make pictures of the future and past, today.

Consider that the pictures you shoot today will become the past of the future.

Meaning, if you shoot a picture of a man on an iPhone today, 200 years from now someone will say, “Wow! This picture is so retro! This is when people still had phones (before we all got a Google brain implant)”.

3. WE HAVE THE BEST TOOLS AND ACCESS!

Today is the best time, day, and age to be a photographer.

Consider, you have THE BEST TECHNOLOGY and equipment ever known to humankind.

You have digital medium format cameras, you can still shoot film photography (buy FILM NOTES), you have access to infinite open source information on photography, insanely affordable full-frame (and compact and light) mirrorless digital cameras, you have iPhone cameras with incredible image quality, you have free unlimited cloud storage for your pictures (Google Photos), and you have the best thing— the INTERNET to share your pictures to billions of people on planet earth.

So why do you wish you were a photographer from the past, when they had shitty cameras that only had ISO 50? Film still has a lot of merits, but honestly digital photography has empowered us so much more.

4. Conquer the photography world today!

So friend, don’t wish for the past. Be grateful for today, and be EXCITED, motivated, and OPTIMISTIC for the future of photography!

There is no better time than today that you can succeed as a photographer. You can become “internet famous” and there are no longer any old-school art world gatekeepers holding you back.
