Your life is short. Why waste any of it, not producing things which are meaningful to you?

To me, to be a ‘productive’ person is to produce much of things which you consider strong, powerful, and meaningful. It ain’t about just answering emails; it is about producing your life’s work; your art-work.

What does it mean to be a productive photographer?

Some ideas:

Shoot more (produce more photos)
Spend more time re-editing your past work (curating your portfolio)
Determine how you deliver the most value as a photographer, and focus on that. To create wealth as an entrepreneur means to leverage your strengths (discover your archimedes lever). For example, I create 90% of my value through blogging. For you, it might be teaching photography. It might be shooting business-styled photos. It might be shooting wedding photos. It might be shooting fine-art-styled photographs. Whatever it may be, spend time to reflect on how you create value as a photographer.
Spend more time analyzing the photos and the works of the great master photographers from the past. For example, a question I’m always pondering to myself: “What makes a great photograph?“

Avoiding distractions in photography

Don’t look at gear websites, gear rumor websites, gear review blogs, etc.
Don’t look at the work of your contemporaries. Compare yourself with the work of the (dead) masters. Stay focused on creating your own work.
Don’t fall victim to paralysis by analysis in photography. Just go out and shoot photos which you consider beautiful.
