Brian Acton (sold What’s App to Facebook) tells us to delete Facebook. What does he know that the rest of us doesn’t know?

Now he’s talking publicly for the first time. Under pressure from Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg to monetize WhatsApp, he pushed back as Facebook questioned the encryption he’d helped build and laid the groundwork to show targeted ads and facilitate commercial messaging. Acton also walked away from Facebook a year before his final tranche of stock grants vested. “It was like, okay, well, you want to do these things I don’t want to do,” Acton says. “It’s better if I get out of your way. And I did.” It was perhaps the most expensive moral stand in history. Acton took a screenshot of the stock price on his way out the door—the decision cost him $850 million.

Also– why did Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger (founders of Instagram) leave the company after Facebook’s acquisition? They probably know something that we don’t know.

Let us consider a society where you purely quantify your self-esteem through numbers. The quantified self movement is bad. If you metricate yourself based on numbers, you will always be in a fragile position.

What I’ve learned

For myself, I am a highly emotional and sensitive person. I don’t like numbers. I get too emotional. For example, I intentionally hide all my stats. Why? When I see my stats when they go up or down, I get too many of these strange hormonal cascades. I prefer to be more zen; zen-zone is the goal.

Delete the gram

I deleted my Instagram with around 60,000+ followers. Best thing I’ve ever done.
