How Laptops Can Change the World

I love iPad, but still … at least for our life-times .. you can never do better than a laptop.

Simple idea:

If you wanna help ‘kids in the hood’, best to get them a (used) or (refurbished) MacBook laptop or MacBook Air. Or a new MacBook Air.

No, phones aren’t the future.

Going from laptop to phone … we are almost de-volving.

When I think of any of my truly meaningful work I’ve done in my life, it has ALL been done on a laptop (or iPad, which I am also a huge fan of for visual artists).

Simple ideas:

  1. Encourage kids to make their own self-hosted website. You pay for their hosting fees. Signup via bluehost.com and install wordpress.org for them.
  2. Or if that is too complicated, get them to register wordpress.com blog
  3. Teach them how to code. If you want to get the kid out of the hood, offer them the opportunity if you can make $100,000 (straight out of college with a computer science degree), you will encourage more kids. Say they can buy all the iPhone’s they want, all the Yeezy’s, a BMW etc.

The price of a (new) MacBook Air is the same as a new iPhone!

A MacBook Air laptop is 10000000000000x better than a new iPhone. If the kid wants to get into photography, buy them a RICOH GR, RICOH GR II, or RICOH GR III.

ChromeBooks are a trap.

The notion of a Chrome Book is good hearted, but ultimately bad. It essentially gets kids addicted to the procrustean bed of Google Docs, Gmail, and Youtube. If a kid really wants to really code real stuff, they need a proper laptop (cheapest MacBook laptop).

What can you do with a laptop?

  1. Make a robust website
  2. Code
  3. Create (real) apps
  4. Process photos and videos 100000x more efficiently
  5. Create more substantive things.

Make it cool.

Get the kid a cool laptop. Gold! Space Grey! It has to be sexy!
