How to Become a GREAT Blogger

I consider myself one of the greatest bloggers of all-time.

Why?

  1. I grew up with blogging (started blogging since age 16, in high school, with Xanga).
  2. I can type 150+ words per minute
  3. I am fearless when it comes to writing
  4. I can ‘stream’ a stream-of-consciousness style of writing, which is friendly, conversational, and practical.
  5. I’m always hungry for more.

How you can become a great blogger

First of all, start your own self-hosted wordpress.org blog. I use 1and1.com. I think bluehost.com is better in terms of service.

Anyways, the benefit of starting your own self-hosted wordpress.org blog:

You have ultimate control.

Control and power is everything.

Why not wordpress.com?

WordPress.com is great, but if your goal is long-term thriving (until age 120-140), wordpress.com has less control and freedom.

Only blog or vlog what you care for.

This is the MOST IMPORTANT tip:

NEVER blog or vlog about what you don’t care for.

When you blog or vlog what you don’t care for, you won’t have the same zest, passion, and soul if you’re blogging/vlogging about what you personally care for, what you’re interested in, and what you’re curious about.

Blogging as playing!

Don’t take blogging seriously. In-fact, to take life too seriously. When you treat life too seriously, you lose the child-like spirit of play.

Blogging as ‘meta-thinking’

While I blog, I think. I flesh out my thoughts while blogging. To blog is highly beneficial to myself. And remember the saying:

As one teaches, two learn.

As I am teaching and sharing my thoughts, I am better distilling my own thoughts and ideas.

What should I blog about?

Blog about your personal interests and passions. Don’t ‘specialize’. Allow yourself to write about ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING!

For example, I am personally interested in:

  1. Photography
  2. Art
  3. Entrepreneurship
  4. Philosophy
  5. Technology

I write about all this on my blog; they all dove-tail together, and ‘cross pollinate’ into something unique.

Be a singular person.

Who do we remember? We don’t remember companies; we remember individual human beings!

One of the problems with modern Silicon-Valley thinking:

We all want to build billion-dollar ‘unicorn’ companies.

But what if the goal was:

To build ourselves into billion-dollar individuals? (Kanye West, Elon Musk, JAY Z)?

We don’t really care for ‘artistic movements’, ‘collectives’, or groups. Nobody remembers the F64 photography group. But we remember Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, and the few great photographers of history.

Also, we don’t care for the ‘cubist’ movement much. We remember Picasso.

We don’t really care for the ‘Renaissance’. But we care for Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, etc.

The goal is for you to constantly stream epic ‘turbo thoughts’.

My practical thought:

As a blogger, you’re a modern-day philosopher.

You’re a philosopher, and you blog as a form of publishing/sharing your ideas and thoughts.

Blogging is the ultimate Gutenberg thus far.

Blog on!
