The best way to change the world? Start blogging.

Why blogging?

Blog: web-log of your thoughts, activities and personal philosophies.

Consider … what is the difference between an academic, scholar, writer, novelist, etc and a blogger? None! Blogging isn’t an identity (blogger isn’t an identity). No. To blog is simply to publish your thoughts online.

99.9% of newly published books should just be long-form blog posts

My belief:

Honestly … 99.9999% of these modern books don’t need to be published in paper form or hardcover form. They could easily suffice as blog posts, PDF’s, or ebooks.

So why the propensity to print in print? Well, my thought:

People are just hungry for the prestige.

I find prestige-hunters generally abominable characters. Full of hidden resentment, poisonous pettiness. The desire to augment one’s insecurity via the external validation of others, or through institutions, or through famous presses.

Blogging as the best platform for independent thought

Let us consider, if you register your own website and domain (using bluehost.com and installing wordpress.org), you have 100% freedom (more or less) to freely and openly publish and distribute your ideas on the free web. Instagram, Facebook, Medium, or any other ‘free’ publishing platforms are generally traps. Same goes for YouTube, Snapchat, and practically every social media platform.

Why don’t more people blog, or publish their thoughts on a blog?

I think it comes down to insecurity. Folks desire the fame associated by publishing in some big online website or publication, or to have their thoughts externally validated by a book publisher. But now, I am highly highly highly suspicious of any external book publishers (besides HAPTIC PRESS, Cindy’s publishing press company, which I run with her). The basic gist:

Don’t strive to get ‘signed’ by an external press. No; you sign yourself.

Create your own publishing platform

This is the power of open source. WordPress.org is one of the greatest blessings to humankind. I truly believe in open source and open platforms over closed. Why? I remember what it was like when I was a broke-ass kid, with no money or resources. Free and open sourced knowledge, tools, digital technology etc empowered me to become who I am today. Now it seems only logical:

I want to devote much of my life towards promoting open source knowledge, information, and modes of creation.

Why be scared?

I’ve found that the deeper and darker the secrets I share [SCARS], the happier and bolder I become.

Consider in today’s very plush modern world, there is truly nothing to be afraid of. We aren’t dying of simple infectious diseases, we aren’t afraid of being invaded by some random barbarian tribe, and for the most part … all of our fears are social fears. Social fears like the fear of embarrassment, loss of dignity, loss of respect, etc.

Conclusion

The conclusion:

If you can independently share your thoughts openly, frankly and without self (or external) censorship, you’re free.
