Retire Now

It is obvious that retirement is a good thing. I retired. Why did I retire? In order to focus on artistic and philosophical production.

But what holds us back? Fear. Also, perhaps we should put a stake in the ground and state:

I have retired.

More thoughts on retirement:

No gains, no losses.

What if I told you:

For the rest of your life, you could not accumulate money, nor could you lose money.

If this were the case, how would you live your life?

You don’t need 10 million dollars

I read all these weird online calculators on how much money you gotta save, then invest in the stock market, and then you can live off your ‘residuals’ or “passive income”.

To me, this is the worst tantalizing notion. The apple will always be a little out-of-your-reach.

What if retirement is already possible within your range right now?

Move to Vietnam

A simple suggestion:

If you want to retire today or right now, just move to Vietnam (live in Hanoi or Saigon).

I believe Vietnam is the best place for us ‘digital nomads‘ to live. Why? Friendly folks, great food, insanely fast wifi (much faster than America, Mexico City, etc), low cost of living, and rapidly developing economy (and great coffee!)

Why live abroad?

To me, the simple equation for retirement is this:

Put yourself in a situation in which you can earn money faster than you can spend it.

This is Vietnam. When living in Hanoi, our rent (brand-new studio apartment) was only $350 USD a month. Consider meals are around $1-2 USD (street food). Even fancy food is only ~$10 USD a meal. Coffee is $1-2 a cup. What else do you need?
