My Money Philosophy
My personal and practical thoughts on money and what it means to me:
What is money good for?
First of all:
What is money good for?
To me, money is good to pay rent and eat meat.
Money as skin in the game
This is where money gets interesting:
If I charge money for my workshops, it isn’t to make money … it is just to filter my students based on how passionate they are to learn. Skin in the game.
Why I like to pay for things
I don’t really like getting free stuff. Why? No proof of my true preferences (revealed preferences). When I pay money for something, it is a sign:
I truly love this thing, this is why I paid X amount of money for it.
To pay money for something is a badge of honor, of respect. If you get something for free, you don’t know what you truly value in life.
Money ain’t a score system to see if you’re winning in life
In Diablo II, gold is useless. You can buy some town portals and potions but besides that … the more gold you have (beyond level 10), more gold is insignificant. What we really want to do in Diablo II is to level up your character, become stronger, and gain more rare and powerful items.
The goal is to become stronger.
