A thought on success:

Don’t strive to accumulate trillions of followers for the sake of it. Instead, strive to accumulate your IDEAL followers.

What is an ideal follower of yours? Let me share:

To ask yourself the question “WHY?” more often — engage with ZEN OF ERIC (Facebook messenger app).

Quality of followers

When it comes to followers, it is all about QUALITY of the follower, not the quantity.

For example, if I had Kanye West follow me, that is 100000x more valuable than having billions of random people follow me.

Who are you trying to impact?

This is just my own opinion, but this is what I think:

It is more fun, interesting, and great to impact a few ‘prime movers’ than to impact a lot of mildly-interested folks.

For example, let us say I share an opinion which changes the opinion of a top Apple photos employee. This is 10000x more valuable in terms of maximizing my impact (compared to getting a trillion random instagram followers).

Share your condensed thoughts and deep ideas

What differentiates a good thinker from a bad thinker?

A good thinker is raw, not watered down. A good thinker is condensed, dense, deep, and solid.

A bad thinker is simply a re-hasher of others’ opinions. A bad thinker listens to too much media, which drowns out his own thoughts and opinions.

I’ve discovered for myself:

Better to share a true and controversial opinion of yours (and not censoring yourself or watering down your opinion) than to share a ‘safe’ opinion.

No caveats.

I hate it when people say ‘it depends’, when you ask them about their opinion. Better to state your opinion — raw and direct, than to simply ‘tippy-toe’ around the question.

Why are we so afraid to share our own opinion?

My thought:

When you share your own opinion, you make yourself open to attacks from other.

But this is what a true opinion is — skin in the game (Nassim Taleb).

Who I admire

I love Nassim Taleb. Why? He doesn’t bullshit. He speaks his mind. He is authentic. I can trust him, and I aspire to become a bit more like him (to censor myself less, and to put MORE SKIN in the game!)

Also, I think we tend to admire people we would like to emulate and to gain their courage, audacity, and strength.

For example, Steve Jobs. I don’t necessarily want to become Steve Jobs — I just want to have his same audacity and courage!

Conclusion

Just ask yourself:

Who is my ideal follower?

Then based on that, realize the best strategy you can do is this:

  1. Don’t censor yourself
  2. Be brutally honest
  3. Share your thoughts, ideas, etc.
  4. Don’t prepare. Just go ‘stream of consciousness’.
  5. Practice writing (blogging) and vlogging your opinion. Written opinions and vlogged ideas will create a more holistic opinion from you.

Then just share!

And remember ultimately:

Your ideal follower is yourself!
