WHY I DON’T BELIEVE IN COLLABORATION
We have all been trained that all collaboration is good. Why is this? My refutation:
What does it mean to collaborate?
To collaborate means:
Nobody steers the ship.
Also it means:
Everyone’s opinion carries equal weight.
This is false. I would NOT trust the opinion of a plumber who gives me advice on computer programming (assuming he doesn’t know how to code). I would NOT trust the workout and fitness advice of a ‘skinny fat’ guy at the gym. I would NOT trust the opinion of an individual who is not self-owned.
Do you have the audacious courage?
Collaboration is another way of saying:
I don’t have the guts to lead, or assert my opinion.
What gets done in committees or in collaborations? Almost nothing.
Just do it yourself
The thought:
What if you could never work with anyone else, what if you could never collaborate with anyone else, and what if you can never get venture or outside funding?
What can you do, what can you achieve?
