The Future of Websites and Blogs

The future of websites, Google, blogs, websites, and SEO (search engine optimization) is simple:

Google will become the ultimate news-authority … all websites and blogs shall become assimilated and absorbed by Google.

What I am witnessing already

We already see it right now. The Google AMP program (I installed it on this blog) does this:

You Google something from your phone and the ‘AMP’ (accelerated mobile pages) shows up which strips away the additional ‘content’ from the authority website.

Thus as a consequence, you never gotta actually visit the real site. Google gives you the information, quickly and efficiently.

Why people are so critical of Google AMP

amp.dev: the critique:

Websites and blogs and news agencies which utilize the Google AMP framework get favored higher in Google Search.

In other words:

If you wanna be #1 in Google Search results (a good thing) you MUST get onto Google AMP.

But should we be concerned? Not really. This is just the more pragmatic thought:

Design your website and blog as if nobody will ever see your header, footer, see your side bar, see your menu, see your ‘after content’ block in WordPress.

Why? Because once again … what Google is trying to do is to ‘simplify’ and just extract the choice parts of your articles and blog posts to deliver to the user the most seamless experience.

So … what should we do?

Simple: if you are a website or blog owner, these are my suggestions:

WordPress is king. WordPress.org as the ultimate control power and flexibility. Avoid WordPress.com — it is mostly a trap. WordPress.com is good for getting your students to make an easy website and such, but if your goal is for internet or blog dominance, WordPress.org is the best.
With wordpress.org installed on your website-blog, install the Google AMP plugin.
Design your website as if nobody will ever click on your header, footer, side bar, after content, see your ads, or see your menu bar.
