10 Tips How to Shoot Head-On Street Photography

Typically street photos you shoot which are head-on are more dynamic, engaging and energizing. This is how to do it:

1. You must be aggressive

People like to eat sausage, yet don’t like seeing how it is made behind the scenes. In reality, to shoot head-on street photos you must be an aggressive “asshole”. For example, to shoot head on, harnessing the “cut off technique”:

2. Dead-center subject

Center your subject directly in the center of the frame, but make sure their body position is also positioned directly towards you:

3. Get in the midst of the action!

Get uber-close to your subjects and laugh and shoot while chatting with them! Or stepping into restaurants or bars (quickly in and out) when shooting street photography:

4. Walk directly in front of your subject, and shoot them while turning head-on

5. Shoot in crowded intersections

Or when crossing the road:

6. When you’re close to people, turn around and shoot them head-on

7. Walk up directly to them, especially if they’re behind glass or a window (or in a car)

8. From a higher angle, looking downwards

9. Shooting indoors

Surprisingly, people don’t really notice you as much when you’re shooting street photography indoors.

9. Entrances

Shoot as you’re entering a place, or shoot while you’re passing an entrance:

10. Anywhere, anytime.

Shooting head on as an ethos and attitude and approach. To not be shy.
