The Street Photographer as a Soldier-Artist
What makes street photography more interesting or challenging than other forms of photography or art?
The fact that we have to photograph real humans. To interact with other humans is 1000x challenging and scary than simply attacking the canvas or paper.
Street photography is 90% courage
I am convinced:
There is no difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ street photographers.
The only difference is between a quantum of courage.
Street photography is all about courage.
For example I’m the most proud of myself not when I make a good photo, but when I have the courage to shoot something I want to shoot!
No hesitation
I am happiest when I am shooting street photography when I have no hesitations, no fears, and no stopping.
Street photography as a personal pursuit
I’ve only really enjoyed street photography when it was a personal pursuit. Probably the best thing I’ve done in my street photography was deleting my Instagram, starting arsbeta.com, and focusing on shooting for myself. Why? It has helped me create more authentic photos (not photos to just get likes, but my actual philosophical reflection on reality, and what I love and consider beautiful).
