Some of my favorite and may best street photography pictures, and why I think they are good:

Conquer Your Fears and Meet New Peers at Eric Kim WORKSHOP >

1. Juxtaposition

The juxtaposition (contrast) between the man and his wife (behind) glass doors.

This picture is from my SUITS book, and my interpretation of the photo is this:

There is a distance and a gap between a man and his woman; shown through the metaphor of the glass door.

2. No eyes

Eyes are the windows to the soul– but do you have a soul without eyes?

3. Hand gestures

To show more emotions in your photos, photograph your subjects with hand-gestures on their faces, to highlight emotions such as stress, anxiety, or loneliness:

Another example from my SUITS book: a man with his hand over his forehead, looking at the financial news: perhaps stressed from a financial downside he incurred?

4. Long-distance flash

Shoot street photography with a flash, from a longer distance, to create more surreal photos.

Also what I tried to highlight in this photo is the relationship between this couple; the bored couple and their relationship.

5. Symbolism / metaphor

The tie as a metaphor/symbol of a noose:

So essentially what I tried to say with this photo is this:

Don’t get trapped by your job, just for the money, power, or fame.

And recognizing you have the power to quit the rat race!

Conclusion: Make a social statement

To me, street photography is visual sociology. Use photography as a tool to critique the world around you; in terms of what you desire to change!

Never stop shooting,
ERIC
