11 Tips How to Use Photography to Get More Fit

Photography as one of the best tools to become more fit (more muscular, more skeletal muscle mass, and less body fat [adipose tissue]).

Also, photography as a tool to become happier, more productive, and to transform your bodily aesthetics into a Greek or Roman statue.

1. Be creative AND workout at the same time!

The fun and joy of recording myself working out:

2. Experiment with new approaches

Working out and photography — two fantastic creative constraints.

For example, me discovering that I can do a one-handed deadlift (because there are not enough weights at my home gym).

Also — learning how to do a floor bench press (because I don’t have a proper bench press rack at home). And I think I have actually discovered:

I PREFER doing a floor bench press compared to the ‘real’ thing!

3. The social aspect

When I workout, I love to socialize! Hanging out with my buddy Jemal or my other (new) friends at the park.

4. Fun to watch yourself working out

To me, photo and video are the same thing. Video is just moving photos. Some people like to watch Netflix; I like to watch my own workout videos. I like to see how my muscles move, grow, and look. I also enjoy experimenting with different and unique perspectives (low camera angles and so forth) to just witness to see myself working out from unique perspectives.

Photography is all about your perspective; both literally and metaphorically.

5. When I record myself working out, I get more motivated

Truth be told working out and recording is massively distracting. But it is fun! And strangely motivational. Not only that but when I workout, I get more creative juices and energy. And vice versa; recording myself workout and get more fit is also a creative act.

We like to see things move! My theory:

When we watch videos or watch moving objects or media, or when we see blurry photos, it *suggests* movement. And this suggestion of movement inspires us to move!

Motivation is movement.

7. A visual diary

For myself, it is huuuugely fun to see my body transform and progress over the years. I look at my old photos of myself and think to myself:

Wow I used to be so fat and soft.

8. Watch your videos, and screenshot them

One of my new fun hobbies and passions and approaches to photography:

Shooting screenshots as ‘meta-photography’.

I watch the videos on my laptop then shoot screenshots whenever I see a scene I like, then I put it into gallery form on this blog like this:

Seeing still photos in a collage like this is hugely fun and interesting to me to look at! Like a stop-motion.

9. Upload and share your photos and videos of your fitness stuff

Needless to say there will alllllways be someone buffer, stronger, and more swole than you. But this doesn’t matter! Just because someone else owned an iPhone, would that cause you to not buy one? Or just because someone else ate meat, would you not eat meat?

Just because someone has done it before you, and might have even done it ‘better’ shouldn’t dissuade you from doing it yourself.

For example, imagine kids at the playground who refuse to play and say:

“Whats the point of playing on the playground when all these other kids in the past have played on the playground before and are so much better than me?”

This is preposterous! Kids play just because it is fun! And I do this because it is insanely fun too. And so can you!

10. How to do it.

Simple idea:

One shot, and just do it yourself.

No need for others. Just hold your camera in one hand while recording, or put the camera in some corner and just record yourself in action.

Perfection doesn’t exist; it is all about progression.

This is not my body

The first thing:

I don’t see my body as belonging to me. I look at my body like it belongs to someone else.

When I look at the Lamborghini of someone else, I admire it. When I see the muscles and physiques of anyone else, I admire it. Then I had the epiphany:

Why not transform my own body into a Lambo, and admire my own body instead?

The logic

The great logic:

  1. It is far cheaper to get buff than to buy a Lambo.
  2. The human body is the apex beauty. This means your personal goal in life should be to beautify your own personal body to the maximum (without plastic surgery, steroids, etc).
  3. Ultimate democratic approach: Genetics doesn’t matter. Sex doesn’t matter. Racial ethnicity doesn’t matter. Anyone can both add muscle mass and subtract fat.
  4. It doesn’t cost much to get ripped. Just intermittent fast [no breakfast, no lunch], one big ass meal a day, and mostly a ‘ketogenic’ diet.
  5. Your body is always with you. Why not beautify your body to inspire yourself?

To sculpt your own body is insanely fun. Why? You can see the change over time!

Once again, the goal is simple:

Never stop adding muscle mass, and never stop reducing body fat, or keeping it low (around 10%).

Muscle and your body is highly practical.

The more muscle you have, the more energy you got. The more power you got to make art-work, and live with gratitude, joy, and hyper-vigor.
