How to Curate Your Street Photography Portfolio
To curate your photos:
Display and show/select the photos you CARE about!
1. Use your memory
Big tip:
There are certain photos of mine which have embedded themselves into my memory. I select my photos based on my memory to share.
Why memory? Well — if you remember a certain photo, it means you have some sort of emotional connection to it. And if you have an emotional connection with it; the photograph probably means something to you.
We remember photos we care for.
2. Let it sit and marinate.
You never really know whether you truly care for a photo until you’ve let yourself sit on the photos for a long time and ‘marinate‘ them.
3. Balancing the old and the new
This is the tricky thing about portfolios:
You are constantly shooting new photos.
Thus, there is a necessary element of “re-calibrating” your photography portfolio.
I believe your photography is always in flux. Over time, your tastes change. Your portfolio must reflect that.
A portfolio which is always static is boring. Always change it up!
4. Slideshows
Another tip:
If you want an easy way to curate your photos, use iMovie (or any slideshow program) and create a slideshow of your photos.
I find that through the process of putting together a slideshow of my photos, I better re-discover my favorite photos, and can re-digest them!
5. Never stop striving to make new photos
Stasis is death. You gotta keep moving! You gotta keep moving, shooting, and making new images.
A life with no photos ain’t a life worth living.
