What are the best photos? The ones which impact you and the viewer the most:
Visual impact
How to make photos with more visual impact? Some thoughts:
- More extreme contrast and juxtapositions. Can be achieved in monochrome, high contrast, crushing the blacks, and more extreme forms of post-processing. Simpler yet more effective visual imagery and composition.
- Small thumbnail test: If your photos ‘jump out’ at you when you’re looking at them as small thumbnails, this is good.
- Flash: Shooting with a flash as a highly effective way to make more visually impactful photos.
- Tight curation: To only share your most visually effective and impactful photos is key to a strong portfolio. Only keep your strong photos.
- Wider angle lens: 35mm, 28mm, 24mm, 21mm — typically the wider the lens, the more dynamic your photos.
