The Art of Choosing Your Best Photos: How to Cull and Edit Down Your Portfolio
The most difficult thing for us to do as modern photographers — have the skill to choose our best images; the photos we truly care for:
My technique
Flux portfolio. Your portfolio is always in a state of flux. You are always adding to it, removing from it, subtracting from it, or re-arranging things. Delete old stuff, but also re-upload old stuff. Delete new stuff, but also upload new stuff. The future portfolio is simple — your website!
How to select and cull down your photos
The art of letting your photos marinate:
Over time, the cream rises to the top.
Typically with my photos it goes something like this:
There are some photos I used to really really love, but now I find them “meh”. Other photos I once thought were “meh”, I really really like!
Follow your gut
Let us not over-think it. If you like the photo, it is a good photo!
