LESS SURFACE AREA.

I remember when I first came back to the states after living in Vietnam, my first thought was:

Wow, so much space in America is wasted … there is too much matter and surface area being wasted.

Why you don’t want a big car

It is currently over 90 degrees in Southern California … and the thought:

Having to wash your car (all the time) is such a pain in the ass.

This is why having a black car (especially in Southern California) sucks. You gotta wash it literally every day to have it look good and clean. Far better to get a white car, a yellow car, or perhaps even a green/cream/matte white/red car.

Consider if you got a big car … how much surface area you must wash and polish. Huge waste of time.

This is why even if you’re a billionaire, probably best to get a Tesla Model 3 (performance) over even the Tesla Model S plaid.

Why? Less surface area. Easier to park, less to wash and polish.

More efficient homes

The smaller the apartment, the more ideal. In praise of minimalist luxury apartments

Even a thought on homes:

The less square footage, the better.

Certainly there are cases where *too small* is indeed too small. For example having a child, I wouldn’t want to go back to our Osaka or Kyoto (insanely tiny) studio (perhaps 150 square feet or less?) Then the question:

What is the optimal smallness?

As small as possible, but not any smaller

For example, Steve Jobs knew that the current iPad size (the ‘normal’ one) was the best. Not the big iPad, nor the iPad mini.

Thus, don’t just choose the smallest for the sake of the smallest… but the most optimal smallness.
