Recognize that if you have some epic photography entrepreneurship idea; don’t be afraid to take a risk and just do it. Why? At worst your “failure” is just feedback to try again in a different way!

What is “success”?

To me, my definition of success is doing meaningful work on a daily basis, and to empower yourself and others. Success to me isn’t about making a bunch of money, getting a lot of social media followers, and it isn’t external.

From a Stoic perspective, don’t make your success dependent upon having others approve you, applaud you or reward you with honors, awards, and money.

Success should be defined by you, and you should be able to obtain your version of “success” independently (by your own actions, virtue, and personal honor/ethics).

So what if you “fail”?

Most people define “failure” as not having reality match up with their expected results from their actions.

Meaning, most people set certain goals for themselves, and if they don’t achieve the goals they set for themselves, they feel like they’ve “failed”.

What’s your definition of “Failure”?

The word “fail” comes from the word “fallere” in Latin, which means to deceive or disappoint. And going even further back, “fail” means to “lie or deceive” in Proto-Indo-European.

Generally we define failure as “disappointment”: disappointing others, or disappointing ourselves.

So if we define failure as disappointment, who are we afraid of disappointing– disappointing ourselves, or disappointing others?

We cannot control whether we disappoint others, but we can control whether we disappoint ourselves or not, by the following:

  1. Adjust our expectations (aka, don’t have any expectations)

  2. Hustle Harder: Put in more effort, or try out a new approach.

But in both circumstances, you must define “success” in your own mind and words.
