What’s Your Focus in Life?

So something interesting I learned, the word “focus” actually comes from an optical metaphor — like asking what is the focusing point of a lens; where the concept of “focal length” comes from.

So the definition of focus, in optics is:

A point at which reflected or refracted rays of light converge.

This is an apt definition, because if you concentrate the rays of a sun through a magnifying glass, you can burn holes through steel, like a laser!

Now the reason I find this to be interesting:

You only have so much energy or human metabolism to expend in a day or your lifetime. Knowing this, how would you best focus your energy and power — and what do you want to make the biggest impact on?

For example, my biggest focus is this blog. It’s my Archimedes lever; I have the most freedom and flexibility in publishing my thoughts and ideas here which I hope to empower others with.

You have your own unique skill, strength, and awesomeness. All you must do is constantly reflect everyday:

What’s my main strength in life, and how can I focus on doing that everyday?

For you it might be teaching, making photos, making films, making poetry, etc. Focus on your strength, and laser in on that.

Like Archimedes once said,

If you know where to stand, you can move the earth!
