Contrary to what Marc Andreesen says (Software is eating the future), hardware is the future. What do I mean?

Let us consider … if you control the hardware, you control the software.

Does anyone really want an Android phone anymore?

If you think about Google Store, and thinking about all the new upcoming Pixel phones… the question:

Does anyone really even want an Android phone anymore?

Does anyone *really* want a Pixel phone, or a Samsung phone?

No. Everyone wants an iPhone. Specifically, an iPhone Pro. Or the newest, best, and the most expensive iPhone.

What is Apple doing?

You will see this more and more —

As time goes on, Apple will slowly (piece-meal) slowly push out Google and Facebook/Instagram services).

You already see this in the new iOS– asking your apps to *NOT* track you across your browsing habits. This will kill Facebook/Instagram. Why? How else can these companies profile their users without tracking?

People don’t like paying for software, but they like paying for hardware.

Why do people like paying for hardware, but not software? Simple —

The human bias is that we like concrete and solid things.

We will keep buying new hardware (it seems that we will keep buying new iPhone’s until the end of time), and also new cars. We will keep buying new BMW’s, new Lexus cars, etc.

We can also see clothes as hardware. We will keep buying NIKE sneakers, ADIDAS shoes, and now — YEEZY clothing.

We will always bore of the physical

There is no “perfect” camera. Don’t fall into GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and falsely believe that buying a new camera will make you a better photographer.

Of course this is just a list of stuff that work for me. It probably won’t work for you.

But I got inspired to make this list– because it took me about 10 years to figure out the best equipment for me. And this works for me, and I hope it can help simplify your purchasing decisions (at least in photography and some other details).

I’ll continue to do articles and videos related to equipment– because I do believe (up to a certain degree) having the ‘right’ equipment in life makes life easier. But the problem is falling victim to GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) where we are buying stuff for the sake of it (has happened to me).

If you already have a bunch of equipment that works for you– stick with it. But if you need some help, I hope this list helped you.
