TALKING ERIC KIM

The Joy of Freestyle Rap/Poems

When I was a kid, I would always freestyle rap with my friends.

Now — I enjoy doing it for fun!

Why?

STIM PACK

Fun!

To me, writing poetry or freestyle rhyming poetry off the top of my head is insanely fun, interesting, challenging, and creative.

The joy of rhyming

There is an innate joy I get from music and rhyming. The funny thing with rhymes:

When we hear a rhyme, we tend to think it is more true.

Also I read in Nietzsche one of his theories:

Perhaps in the past, people used to think that poets (who can rhyme) were god-inspired, because to rhyme or make music was seen as divine.

MAYBACH

I don’t care to be good, but I care to be positive and uplifting.

When it comes to making poems or thymes, I am not so concerned about being ‘good’. I am more interested in putting forth a positive and empowering message.

For a long time I thought to myself:

Why is there no truly empowering rap music with a good message?

Rather than complain — I need to become the change I wish to see in the world. Thus my rhymes!

Ideas

Make a video selfie of yourself on your phone or whatever and as you’re walking, spit a freestyle off the top of your mind for fun! I find that when I’m walking, I can think better, and I can rhyme better.

You can type it too.

Sometimes when I am indoors, I prefer to type the rhymes. I just take a certain mood or cadence in my mind and I just type out a freestyle poem.

No right or wrong.

Once again — there ain’t a right or wrong. If you’re not trying to make a liver as a rapper, poet, or rhymer — then know that there are no downsides! Just have fun, upload them to your blog, YouTube, whatever, and rhyme on!
