The quadrillion dollar question:
How can I get more followers?
Some of my real thoughts:
1. Don’t censor yourself.
We like those who are outspoken, entertaining, loud and opinionated. When we typically hate these individuals (like for example a Kanye West or a Donald Trump) we think:
It is so unfair and so injust that these assholes are just being themselves and somehow they win and succeed in life!
2. Who are your ideal followers?
You don’t want just anyone to follow you … you probably have a certain idealistic follower you desire.
For example for Elon Musk his ideal follower are high net worth individual (tech nerds, men) who will purchase his products (Tesla cars, etc). It seems Elon Musk is placating to the Reddit crowd.
How about Apple? Their ideal follower is the “middle class†(or rich) American. Also they sort of dip into the poor people crowd (0% interest when you finance an iPhone through them). But Apple still remains more of an “aspirational brandâ€. Same with Tesla.
3. Do you just want everyone? Or are you selective and picky?
Are you going the McDonalds/Starbucks route and just going for mass adoption and mass penetration of the market? Or more elite? For example Lamborghini cars would not be cool if everyone on the block had one. Things are only cool when they’re rare. The rare for the rare (Nietzsche). Or if everyone had a 6 pack, it wouldn’t be cool. You cannot buy a 6 pack.
4. To gain new followers, don’t be afraid to lose old followers.
Follower flux: your followers are always in a state of flux. Why? As you gain new followers you also lose old followers. Don’t get suckered by the number. Isn’t it better to lose 10,000 random followers and gain 1 Kanye West or Elon Musk to follow you?
