  • TRI

    TRI

    TRIPLE.

Triple. Tri-layer. Tri-force. Tri-motor (plaid). Three layers. Three things (triangles).

For example, I put on two pairs of training underwear for Seneca, and a pair of shorts on top, which gives them a total of three layers, to prevent him from leaking and peeing through it. At first I thought two layers was sufficient, but it is not. Three layers is best.

A random question on my mind: do they sell triple ply toilet paper?

When the weather gets cold, put on three merino wool T-shirts to keep warm, or at least three layers of clothing.

What’s the ideal number of kids to have? Three, if you are strong enough for it.

Also theologically, think about the holy trinity. The father, the son, the Holy Spirit.

Also the best films tend to be trilogy. The fourth installment of some thing is almost never good.

  • STRONG EMOTIONS ARE GOOD.

    STRONG EMOTIONS ARE GOOD.

Extreme love, extreme hate — these are good. What we want to avoid is lukewarm or ‘meh’ or tepid emotions. Or best to be anti weak emotions.

Perhaps one of the best ways to approach composition is to make it subtle.

  • BANGERS

    BANGERS

    The best music are ‘bangers’.

The Dionysian bliss of bass, and things that get you in the ZONE.

Ironically is it BANGERS (high key) that get you in a more zen zone?

    Theory:

Things which get your adrenaline going actually promotes zen?

    My current favorite songs:

    1. “Mr. Miyagi” (Kanye, Playboi Carti)
    2. OFF THE GRID (Kanye DONDA // Playboi Carti)

The best headphones are ‘in ear monitors’ (optimal bass, music quality, noise isolation, gets you in the zone).

  • CUT OUT THE WHITES.

    CUT OUT THE WHITES.

A simple composition thought in photography:

When you’re framing, don’t include or cut out the whites (bright parts of the frame) when you’re shooting.

This works especially well when you’re using “live view” on the LCD (shooting high contrast black and white JPEG):

Once again, then photography and composition as a way of SUBTRACTION.

  • WHY DO THINGS WHICH SCARE YOU.

WHY DO THINGS WHICH SCARE YOU.

    A simple thought:

Things which you are scared of, or what causes fear inside you are things which you are actually really interested in, but for some reason, you’re afraid to attempt or pursue it, because you’re afraid of the negative consequences which might be related to it.

For example, when you see a beautiful woman and you feel fear … it is because you’re actually interested in her, and desire to engage with her, but you’re afraid of the negative consequences if you get rejected?

    Theory:

    Fear is enthusiasm in disguise.

In the context of street photography, fear is enthusiasm. This means–

When you see something or a scene you want to photograph and you feel fear, it means you really want to photograph it, but you’re afraid of the potential negative consequences associated with it.

Bruce Gilden has a simple aphorism:

    Shoot what scares you!

The reason is if you photograph what scares you, it means that you’re more likely to photograph that which is *interesting* to you.

A simple thought is that you don’t feel “fear”, but simply a “heightened sense of things” (Frank Miller, the 300 movie).

    YOUR KID IS A MINI-YOU!

The simple observation and thought which others seem to miss:

Your kid is your mini doppelganger!

  • CUT YOUR OWN STEAK.

    CUT YOUR OWN STEAK.

A subtle fun life hack I’ve discovered:

Go to the Costco Business center, buy large pieces of steak (beef), and just cut it yourself at home, and grill it on the frying pan at home.

Top sirloin is a great choice. I also love the beef brisket at Costco (prime), and the beef ribs.

    Plugins Which *Remove* Functionality

The best plug-ins are the plugins or addons or extensions which BLOCK or REMOVE superfluous functionality.

For example, plug-ins which BLOCK advertisements, popups, cross track site trackers, cookies, annoyances, “notifications”, comments, social media, etc.

Also, the best technology REMOVES NOISE or distractions. My love for noise cancelling things like BOSE noise cancelling headphones, AirPods Pro noise cancelling, moving into a quiet home and neighborhood, door sealing to seal out noise, noise dampening material, silent cars (electric).

  • OPEN SOURCE WEALTH

    OPEN SOURCE WEALTH

Bitcoin is fascinating to me — not just open source money, but open source wealth.

A thought: I like the idea you can store your wealth in open source (Bitcoin) and harness that (digital) wealth into creating your own digital creations.

Bitcoin as the new “gold standard”.

    Or in other words —

Would you rather have Bitcoin or a Tesla?

I’d rather have NO CAR and 10+ Bitcoin instead.

Become more efficient and effective with time.

One of the big upsides of having a kid— you learn to utilize your time very very well. And it becomes a great filter:

What is truly important to you in your life, and what is not.

For example, labor saving devices as helping you do MORE with less time and effort. These are good. For example, Instant Pot, Air Fryer, Roomba, and even powerlifting at the gym (my whole workout is often only 30 minutes for squat, and maybe less than an hour for one-rep max sumo deadlifts).

Also, flying as better than driving (if you have the option).

One of the great upsides of the gym and working out there is that with the weights, there are no limits.

Learning to understand your body through pain is a huge first leap in self knowledge.

  • No Travel?

    No Travel?

It takes more courage not to travel than to travel?

  • Interior First

The interesting thing about cars is this: I think for the most part, we buy a car for the external looks, or the exterior design. Yet, in all practical every day lived reality, the interior is far more important. Why is that? When you’re driving, we’re stuck in traffic, you have no idea what your exterior looks like. You stare at your interior 99% of the time, and look at the exterior only 1% the time.

Something I realize which I hate about car interiors is the automatic shifting stalk. The only car which should have a shifting stalk is a manual transmission car.

  • What is an ”SUV”?

The SUV is a very strange car concept. It stands for sports utility vehicle, but what does that even mean?

    What is sport?

In the context of cars, what does sport even mean? I think it means racing. Racing is the only sport which applies to cars. Therefore, if you desire a sports car, or car to race, it makes more sense to buy a car that is 100% optimized for racing. It must be a two door, and ideally two seater. Or even a one seater.

    Utility

Utility means something that you will use a lot, something that is flexible. I think that means a hatchback. I really love the hatchback design on the Prius, also on the Subaru outback, with the wagon design, you have a huge storage space in the back.

Why would you ever buy a sedan?

In modern times, it seems that the most impractical car is a sedan. To me, a sedan is a compromise of a design. If you do not have a hatchback, the car is not very practical or usable.

For example, the notion of a “sport sedan“ is bizarre. My theory of guys who want a sport sedan or middle-aged men who have a family, yet a more “sporty“ experience. I would say it is better to just barbell it: better to have a Honda Odyssey minivan, and the Porsche 911 turbo on the side, rather than a BMW M3 sedan.

  • Anti Touchscreens for Cars

I prefer cars without touchscreens. Why? Touch screens are a distraction, especially when driving

Also, a huge downside of touchscreens is that they quickly get outdated. I would prefer rather, some open source approach where you could just latch on the newest ipad Pro to your center console, instead of buying a car with it an un-interchangeable touchscreen.

For example, consider the early 2013 Tesla model S. Certainly by now, the touchscreen is outdated, less responsive, and has less sharpness in dpi than the modern iPad Pro.

Even if you buy a brand new tesla today, certainly within a decade, the touchscreen will get hugely outdated.

Even now, the new Toyota and Lexus in car entertainment, GPS, and user interface touchscreen. It will quickly get outdated.

  • Double is Best

    At least two layers.

Think about and consider how superior double ply toilet paper is over single ply. Also, with clothing and armor. Backup generators just in case the power goes out, just like in Beirut Lebanon.

Back ups for your information, and data.

The quote, “in war, two is one and one is none.” If you’re in a battleground, or if you’re John Wick, you don’t want only one gun. You need at least two. Even when John wick goes to the party with assault rifle, he still has his pistol in his side holster, ready.

Let’s also consider the battle scenes in the Iliad, when the heroes throw spears at each other, how often the spear punctures one layer of the armor or shield, yet the additional layer saves their life.

Therefore, it seems wise that when you go hiking, camping, traveling, etc., maybe to wear at least two layers of clothing is a good idea.

Also as a parental pro tip, when you go out on adventures with your kid, putting your kid in double diapers is a good idea. Even around the house, I put on at least two layers for Seneca‘s training underwear.
