Is it truly your own personal moral and ethical imperative to help others?
Is it the duty of the strong to help the weak?

Certainly it is not a universal ‘rule’ or duty for everyone. When it comes to duties, I believe all duties should be self-imposed. You only pursue a duty because you personally care for it, or because you personally have dictated to yourself:
This is a worthy and worthwhile goal for me. I shall pursue it because I deem it worthy for me.
For myself it has been simply a matter of my personal ethics:
So many people have helped me get to where I am today and thus I feel it is my duty to also give back and pay it forward.
Or in other words:
Help other kids who were once in a position like me!
