Super Photography

My ideal of the photographer:

To delight in your own self-development in your photographic artistry– independent from the opinion of others.

Above

The word ‘super’ means above.

The idea is this:

As a super-photographer, you are so high in the air (super-elevation), that nobody else is on your level.

This means:

  1. You have nobody to compare yourself with
  2. You delight in your own self-elevation
  3. You strive to eternally ascend higher– and you depend on the strength of your own wings.

Independence/Freedom is Happiness

This is my thought:

If you truly want to be ‘happy’ as a photographer/visual-artist, you must be independent. You must be able to manufacture your own happiness WITHIN yourself. The auto-motivated photographer (photographer who is motivated within themselves).

The problem with social media is that we gain motivation through the praise of others. Rather than striving to impress ourselves, we strive to impress others.

But why impress others? Most people don’t have the same taste as you.

You’re the only person you must impress with your photos.

Creative Seclusion

I believe to elevate yourself as a photographer and visual artist, you need creative seclusion. For periods of time, you must become self-sufficient unto yourself. This means spending much time to really look at your own photos, and truly gauge your sincerity:

Do I really like these photos I am making? Are these photographs bringing me joy?

As of late, I have been approaching photography more from a painting perspective. I have been super inspired by all the colors and textures of Mexico City, and have been trying to paint my impressions of the city and to paint my personal happiness by making photos around me!

And this has been great — I have been enjoying photography more than ever! I have been so happy and productive the last few days– with new sources of visual stimulation and inspiration. I truly want my photos to be a reflection of my own joy.

SHOOT ON!
