Where in the world is ERIC?

So a quick life update:

  • Went to Washington DC
  • Denver, Colorado (my new favorite American City)
  • Norcal (Palo Alto, testing the Leica Q2)

I’m about to fly out to Hanoi, Vietnam for the next 2 weeks or so (stay updated on my YouTube channel(I anticipate on making some new fun videos while there).

Turbo thoughts

Currently I’ve been spending this last month thinking about photography, life, and philosophy. Some insights and breakthroughs:

  1. The best camera is a point-and-shoot camera(and small devicesare generally better than bigger devices).
  2. When in doubt, optimize your life for uberlight(devices, cars, clothes, bags; almost everything)
  3. Life is too short to discourage: It seems in life it is always better to encourage people (even when they seem ‘foolish’) than to discourage.
  4. Shooting with a flash (RICOH GR II) even during the day makes for really great photos! You can see the photos here.
  5. This year I will experiment with never complaining — only changing things. No words, only actions.
  6. If you want to simplify your photographic workflow, I recommend using the default Apple Photos App. Lightroom is great, but I’m starting to realize it isn’t 100% necessary.
  7. To simplify your photography, shoot #jpegonly
  8. Much of photography projects is editing your work (sequencing, selecting the photos you prefer the best).
  9. It seems possible to make good photos regardless of where you live.
  10. Find inspiration from your idols, but desire to become greater than them!

Photo tips

  1. Keep your photography super simple this week by only carrying a point-and-shoot camera with you (or your phone). Experiment shooting with a flash (and without flash).
  2. Experiment only shooting JPEG this week (adjust your in-camera settings to maximize the saturation and contrast in your camera).
  3. Start your own photo blog (WordPress.org) and use this as an opportunity for you to document your photographic journey, while also sharing photos which are personally meaningful to you.
  4. Don’t feel constrained to just a specific genre of photography; allow yourself to shoot anything that makes you smile (flowers, food, and loved ones!)

And when in doubt, don’t forget our motto:

JUST SHOOT IT.
