BERLIN: definitely one of my favorite cities in the world.
1. Great coffee shops
Berlin’s coffee shop scene is phenomenal. Also coffees and espressos here are WAY CHEAPER than all the other hipster coffee shops in other cities. Most coffee shops you can get a good espresso from 1.70 EUR-2 EUR.
Some of my favorite coffee shops in Berlin:
- OSLO Kaffebar: The best espresso I had in the city. Good standing desk area in the back, good for co-working, and nice music.
- Refinery High End Coffee: Friendly folks, great coffee and drip, and nice outdoor sitting area.
2. Very cool neighborhoods
Friedrichshain (had an AirBnb in this neighborhood) as well as Kreuzberg.
A HUGE population of artists, musicians, and young people. The neighborhoods are just POPPING with youthful energy!
Also on a personal note, there is a big Vietnamese population in Berlin (Fire Tiger is one of my favorite places to eat, get the crispy duck).
In Friedrichshain, Aprilkind Berlin as my favorite coffee shop. There are seriously a billion great coffee shops in the area (all good).
3. Cool people
The people here are extremely open-minded, kind, and welcoming. Everyone pretty much speaks English, which makes it very tourist-friendly.
4. More ‘bang for the buck’
Compared to other big cities, Berlin is extremely affordable. I’ve been able to get proper dishes at restaurants from 6-9 EUR. Berlin feels about 40% cheaper than other bigger cities.
5. Beautiful textures
For photography, there is so much history in the city, and grit and grain. I am convinced that ‘grittier’ cities are more interesting cities, and also better to photograph.
6. Great to photograph.
There are SO MANY things to photograph in Berlin. So purely for travel photography, it is great.
CONCLUSION: Berlin is great
Highly highly highly recommend anyone to travel to Berlin for food, culture, music, coffee, photography.
