Free E-Book: How to Overcome Photographer’s Block

BIG - How to Overcome Photographer's Block - Cover

I am excited to announce that I just finished writing a new book titled: “How to Overcome Photographer’s Block.” If you have ever felt lack of motivation, inspiration, or direction– this is the book for you!

If you’re in a creative rut, learn how to break out of your “photographer’s block” with this comprehensive and practical manual. In this book, I share practical tips, guidance, and assignments to break out of any creative barrier you have with your photography, no matter how severe.

You will learn how to overcome perfectionism, “paralysis by analysis”, giving yourself the permission to make “imperfect photos”, learn how to integrate your life with photography, how to focus on the process (not the outcome), how to add more novelty and randomness to your life, and more.

The book is “open source,” meaning you can share it, remix it, and do anything you want with it for free. Feel free to share it with a friend, print it out, or even translate it into a different language!

You can download the book for free in these formats:

  • PDF (Also check out the French Translation)
  • Google Doc (please suggest edits)
  • .epub (for all e-readers)
  • .mobi (for Kindle)

In the spirit of the “Open Source Photography” approach, I present to you the free online street photography course: “All the World’s a Stage: Introduction to Street Photography.” The majority of this course material was made in 2012, and many of my thoughts and beliefs on street photography have changed since then. However if you are starting off in street photography and want a primer to start, this might be a helpful resource for you.

Also because this is an “Open Source” course, feel free to edit, remix, and distribute this course however you would like!

You can download the syllabus for the course here (.docx file).

Update: I have also setup an informal Facebook group for this course. Unfortunately I cannot moderate it at the moment, but you can collaborate with other students here: All the World a Stage: Introduction to Street Photography Facebook Group

Tokyo, 2016 (with “Eric Kim Monochrome 1600” preset)

I’ve been working on these presets for a long time. They’re mostly optimized for the Ricoh GR and when shooting with flash— but I figure they will look good with any camera (as long as you shoot in RAW).

There are two Lightroom presets included:

  • Eric Kim Color 1600 (gritty, high-contrast color preset)
  • Eric Kim Monochrome 1600 (gritty, high-contrast black and white preset)

Free Color and B/W Lightroom 3 Presets!

Raw Image

So these are some presets that I made in Adobe Lightroom 3 and frequently use when converting my images into color or black and white. Granted that I will still do some fine-tweaking to each image after applying these presets, they are a great starting point for the starting Lightroom 3 user. Also make sure that your images in RAW when applying these presets, or they will come out really funky! Enjoy!
