- High contrast JPEG on your camera. Max out the contrast. In processing, “crush the blacks”.
- Get close to your subjects.
- Use a flash for more drama.
How to master monochrome
- Study the monochrome masters (Henri Cartier-Bresson, Josef Koudelka, Richard AVEDON, W. Eugene Smith), and analyze their images and compositions.
- Good to experiment with color, but eventually come back to monochrome to keep deepening your monochromatic skills and vision.
- Make your compositions stronger, simpler, more dynamic, and more elegant all at the same time!
