For example, when I woke up this morning I felt great, really high energy and strain was ready to hit the gym, but instead decided to go to LA to go house and apartment hunting.
However, after about an hour drive there, in about an hour and a half drive back, and then hitting the gym, I substantively feel weaker. For example, even Atlas lifting six plates felt arduous to me, I had no energy. For reference, I can do over 10.
Therefore, some thoughts and theories; first and foremost, it seems that the best way to optimize your life is a life which requires no commute. Typically what a lot of people do is live further away from work, and live in a nicer or more spacious place further out, or save money. I said I do the opposite, live as close as humanly possible to your workplace, even if your apartment or house may be more expensive, worse, shittier etc. You cannot fool biology.
Also, maybe as a sidenote, don’t do long drives or commute if you don’t have to. And if you’re going to do it, expect and know that it will drain you of all your energy and strength.
Maybe this is also the intelligence of having a private driver, or just riding an Uber everywhere. You could let the driver drain their energy, and you conserve your own personal energy for greater things.
I’m not 100% sure, but this is where the allure of autopilot, or even the basic highway cruise control autopilot is so interesting to me; if it could give you a little bit more energy, or prevent you from losing a little bit of energy, it definitely seems worth it.
Therefore, perhaps we should change our attitude about cars and driving. Rather than thinking of driving as a luxury, and thinking of luxury cars, avoid it like the plague.
The true luxury is not owning a car, or not needing to drive anywhere, and being able to walk everywhere.
