Just went to New Haven and Yale for the first time… and I really love it! Some thoughts:
Go!
If you have never been to New Haven, you must go! A very diverse place, with interesting people and actually very good for street photography!
What is New Haven/Yale Like?
Some thoughts:
First of all, Yale has some of the most beautiful architecture of all-time on any college campus I have been on. Far more beautiful than Brown, Harvard, UCLA, etc. Whoever did the architecture is uber-on-point. Even the women’s sculpture in front of their library is very insightful and elegant.
The beautiful-brutalism in their library (made of stone, looks like an art object) is sooooooo nice.
The downtown
The downtown is fascinating. I went the other day (COVID-19) and it was very lively! Far more livelier than Providence, and even more lively than Boston.
Also I really appreciate people going out and dressing up — reminds me of the fashion of Downtown LA. And in terms of the Yale kids, they just kind of look like weird Berkeley kids. Contrary to my pre-thought … these Yale kids actually aren’t these uber-privileged pretentious looking kids strutting around in suits or whatever. They just look like a bunch of grungy, hippy, happy kids. Kids looked very nerdy.
