A deeper, a richer, a darker, a more profound reality— this is what I find so beautiful about monochrome:
Disdain detail

With high contrast monochrome, there isn’t much detail. But perhaps by OBSCURING details, we make the photos more interesting and profound. Note this idea of “chiaroscuroâ€â€” the dynamic interplay between clear and obscured.

Simple and strong

My ideal in aesthetics — simple, bold, and strong. You don’t need superfluous flourishes to enact an effect. Note the exceedingly simple language Homer uses in the Iliad to describe a myriad of emotional states in the breasts of the ancient heroes.

Even with post-processing, perhaps the goal is to go DEEPER and darker:

Simplest and darkest is best.
Deep, dark, profound. Perhaps this is where our light exists!
