A deeper, a richer, a darker, a more profound reality— this is what I find so beautiful about monochrome:

Disdain detail

With high contrast monochrome, there isn’t much detail. But perhaps by OBSCURING details, we make the photos more interesting and profound. Note this idea of “chiaroscuro”— the dynamic interplay between clear and obscured.

Simple and strong

My ideal in aesthetics — simple, bold, and strong. You don’t need superfluous flourishes to enact an effect. Note the exceedingly simple language Homer uses in the Iliad to describe a myriad of emotional states in the breasts of the ancient heroes.

Even with post-processing, perhaps the goal is to go DEEPER and darker:

Simplest and darkest is best.

Deep, dark, profound. Perhaps this is where our light exists!
