KYOTO ZEN PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE 2017

ERIC KIM KYOTO PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE 2017: Discover Your Inner-ZEN (Sept 9-10).

Dear friend,

I’m excited to invite you to my new KYOTO ZEN PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE, September 9-10, 2017. If you love Japanese Zen aesthetics, street photography, and coffee– this experience is for you:

Kyoto is sublime.

First of all, why am I leading this experience, besides earning money and sharing my passion for street photography?

Well– the Tokyo Week-Long Street Photography experience filled up pretty quick, and we wanted to maximize our time in Japan. For me personally, Kyoto is my spiritual temple. To me, the aesthetics, mood, and vibe of Kyoto is sublime. Whenever I go to Kyoto, I feel my mind is elevated.

Just read my enthusiasm in my Kyoto Diary 2016 >

Kyoto will inspire you.

If you have a passion for minimalism, an interest in Zen, and a passion for street photography– this workshop is perfect for you.

This workshop is going to be a bespoke experience for you. Meaning, it will be tailored, specifically to you.

The workshop will give you the opportunity to shoot the streets of Kyoto, with a “beginner’s mind” or “child’s mind”. First and foremost, I want this workshop to help you feed your inner-artist and child. Kyoto is a city which inspires the best in me– through the dark-ash wood paneling of the Kyoto temples, the slower pace of life, as well as the tranquil walks.

Also, Kyoto has some of the best coffee. Half of the time when I’m in Kyoto, besides making photos, I’m contemplating and meditating at coffee shops, enjoying a nice Kyoto cold brew, an espresso, or slow v60 pour-over or Kalita drip coffee.

Kyoto Zen

The funny thing about Kyoto– it is actually more affordable than Tokyo. Personally, I stay at an airbnb and spend around $50 a night for a pretty nice apartment.

Also, food is cheaper than Tokyo. And all the dinners in this workshop will be pre-arranged, so you will know you will get the best dining experience in Kyoto, without the stress of wasting time on TripAdvisor.

Because to be honest, I want you to have a phenomenal time. I want to share my passion of street photography, coffee, Kyoto, and zen minimalist aesthetics with you. The workshop will be tailored for you to work on a mini- photography project of your own, that can be focused on street photography, street portraits, building your confidence, and making more minimalist and sublime compositions.

Above all, I only want curious, passionate, and fun photographers at this workshop. I want you to share your passion for photography and travel with the rest of the group. The biggest benefit of attending this workshop will be you having the chance to meet other passionate and diverse photographers from all around the world, building new life-long friends, and improving your photographic vision.

Logistics for the Workshop

The workshop will be all-day Saturday and Sunday, from 10am-5pm. We will enjoy the pace of the workshop– it won’t be rushed or forced. We will enjoy the streets of Kyoto, slowly, like flaneurs. We will wander the roads, and follow our noses.

Of course we will also have some pre-arranged routes, which will help you maximize your short time in Kyoto, to make sure you can see all the cool spots. I will take you off the beaten path, and show you my personal favorite places to shoot street photography– and avoid all the tourists.

Saturday

On Saturday morning, we will meet and have the chance to get to know one another, and share our passion for photography. You will share your personal goals for the workshop with the group, and I will help you distill your photographic vision, and help guide you through the workshop by giving you a concrete assignment/focus.

During the workshop, I will pair you up with another photographer from the group– for you to both instruct and inspire one another. I do truly believe the philosophy, “When one teaches, two learn.” This workshop isn’t going to be just me telling you what to do– I want to hear your opinion. I want to learn from you as well.

During the workshop, we will have pre-arranged “office hours” with professor Kim. During the time we have together (in pairs)– I will shoot with you 1:1 on the streets of Kyoto. I will hustle hard to help empower you in your personal goals. When we aren’t shooting together, you will have the freedom to roam the serene streets of Kyoto– and shoot to your heart’s delight.

Through the day, we will take breaks, and enjoy some lovely Arabica espressos and coffees, to enliven our spirits. And in the evening, we will enjoy a lovely, peaceful dinner with one another– sharing fun stories from the day, sharing our images with one another, while filling our bellies with delicious food and drinks.

Sunday

On Sunday morning, we will recap from the prior day, and re-focus our photographic energy. We will continue to shoot the streets of Kyoto, and of course– enjoy more coffee (and tea).

We will then have the chance to share our best images with the group, and have an honest and constructive critique/feedback session. This is probably going to be one of the best experiences of the workshop– to get no bullshit advice on your photography, how you can improve, and continue to pursue your own photographic style and vision after the workshop.

Then of course, party at night. Bust out the Kirin, Sopporo, and let the beer and sake flow. If you don’t drink, that is cool (I don’t), yet we will enjoy some fun bar food, and be loud and rambunctious- and share lots of high-fives and fist-bumps.

After the workshop, we will stay in contact with one another by sharing the group information via email– so we can continue to inspire one another long after the workshop.

Investment

The tuition for the workshop (not including food, transportation, or accommodation) is expensive. The workshop tuition is 1500 USD. However if you submit your full deposit before September 1, 2017, it will only be 995 USD.

To be honest, I think the workshop will be a great investment for you and your photographic passion– that will continue to pay dividends for you long after the workshop. Read my200+ student reviews. I hustle hard in the workshop, to maximize your learning experience, and I put my heart, soul, and every fiber of my being into making sure you have a great time.

The workshop won’t make you Henri Cartier-Bresson. But the workshop will inspire you, help you build new connects, and will help refine your photographic vision. What you get out of the workshop is dependent on what you put in. And because I know you have a deep passion for photography and want to learn, this workshop will be great experience for you.

Also, I need to put skin in the game– and put my money where my mouth is. I’m so confident you’re going to have an unforgettable experience that if you attend the workshop and aren’t totally satisfied, I will give you a 100% money-back guarantee. Of course, it isn’t in my best interest to lose money– so you can bet that this workshop will kick ass.

So friend, what do you have to lose? You have everything to gain.

The streets of Kyoto are waiting for you.
