The split second when you see a potentially great photograph—but you become afraid and don’t make the picture.
And then—
CONQUERING IT.
The purpose of this workshop is not merely to make you a more skilled street photographer.
The purpose is to make you MORE COURAGEOUS.
WHY DOWNTOWN LA?
Downtown Los Angeles is visual chaos.
Humanity everywhere.
Light. Shadows. Faces. Concrete. Steel. Strangers. Movement. Beauty. Ugliness. Energy. Uncertainty.
Perfect.
You cannot become courageous by photographing comfortable things in comfortable environments.
You become courageous by deliberately entering situations in which you feel hesitation—
and acting anyways.
The streets become our gymnasium.
The camera becomes our barbell.
Every photograph becomes another repetition of courage.
CONQUER YOUR FEAR
Most photographers don’t have a technical problem.
They have a courage problem.
They see the photograph.
They hesitate.
They think too much.
They wonder:
What will this person think of me?
Am I allowed to photograph this?
What if they get angry?
What if I look weird?
And during those three seconds of hesitation—
THE PHOTOGRAPH DISAPPEARS.
Our objective:
DESTROY THE HESITATION.
See.
Move.
Approach.
Photograph.
Smile.
Talk.
Keep moving.
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY AS COURAGE TRAINING
Photography is much bigger than photography.
When you develop courage with strangers, you develop courage everywhere.
You become more comfortable speaking.
More comfortable looking people in the eye.
More comfortable occupying space.
More comfortable following your curiosity.
More comfortable being yourself.
This is why I believe street photography is one of the greatest forms of personal courage training ever invented.
You begin because you want better photographs.
You leave becoming a stronger human being.
WHAT WE WILL DO
We will conquer Downtown Los Angeles on foot.
We will photograph strangers.
We will approach people.
We will practice eye contact.
We will initiate conversations.
We will learn how to photograph boldly without becoming aggressive.
We will study composition, light, gesture, backgrounds, layering and timing—but technique will always remain subordinate to the greater objective:
COURAGE.
I will photograph alongside you.
You will see exactly how I approach strangers, how I move through crowds, how I discover photographs, how I interact with people and how I transform fear into forward motion.
No hiding.
No waiting across the street hoping something interesting happens.

My goal is not merely for you to leave with good photographs.
My goal is that the next day, when you walk outside alone with your camera—
YOU FEEL DIFFERENT.
You see somebody fascinating.
And instead of hesitating—
you approach.
You photograph.
You smile.
You speak.
You move forward.
That transformation is worth infinitely more than memorizing another camera setting.
