Also funny idea for a gym— no phone, anti phone gym? When you enter you *must* lock up your phone in the front?

  • NEW RULES

Anti anyone who shows no interest in Seneca or ever asks about him?

Life before Seneca, life *after* Seneca

  • Time Capital

    Big idea:

To save time is to build your time capital?

Ideally to gain and accumulate 1,000 years — like the movie “In Time” with Justin Timberlake?

  • Cash?

    Digital cash?

    Cash is Capital?

Cash for the sake of what?

    Cash etymology

*kap— to seize, to hold. Capsa

    Capio— to storm

The word “cash” has an interesting etymology, with roots in different languages and meanings that have evolved over time.

    1. French Origin: The English word “cash” comes from the Middle French word caisse, meaning “money box” or “chest.” This word itself originated from the Old Italian cassa, which also means “box” or “chest.”
    2. Tamil and Sanskrit Influence: The term also has connections to the Portuguese and Spanish word caixa, which similarly means “box.” However, the word “cash” in the sense of money is thought to have derived from the Tamil word kaasu, meaning a small coin or a unit of currency. This Tamil word comes from the Sanskrit kārá¹£a, a term used for a weight of gold or silver.
    3. Development in English: In English, “cash” originally referred to a coin or currency used in Asia, particularly in the colonial context. Over time, it came to be used more generally to mean money in the form of coins or notes, as opposed to credit or other forms of payment.

So, “cash” in its modern sense blends influences from French, Italian, Portuguese, Tamil, and Sanskrit, reflecting its long history and evolution across cultures and languages.

$13,000 USD visualize in $100 notes

To visualize $13,000 USD in $100 notes, let’s break it down:

    • Value of Each Note: $100
    • Total Amount: $13,000
    • Number of Notes: $13,000 / $100 = 130 notes

If you were to stack 130 $100 bills:

    1. Thickness: A single $100 bill is about 0.0043 inches thick. So, 130 bills would be approximately 0.559 inches thick (130 x 0.0043 inches).
    2. Weight: A single $100 bill weighs about 1 gram. Therefore, 130 bills would weigh 130 grams, or roughly 4.6 ounces.

In summary, $13,000 in $100 bills would look like a stack of 130 bills, about half an inch thick and weighing less than 5 ounces. If you placed the bills side by side, it would cover a modest area, with each bill measuring 2.61 inches by 6.14 inches.

  • Some New Ideas

Kind of a funny idea… essentially the new idea that I have is that we are is a human flesh bound being, and what we are is idea creators, thought streamers, mind streamers.

    Will it last?

Something I am very very happy about and proud of is that it looks like everything I have created, things that I put my heart and soul into have lasted. In fact, even when I think about my super specialized knowledge about street photography… there’s really nobody who knows more about photography than I do!

ERIC KIM is the ultimate educator, knowledge based person, thought provider on street photography and beyond.

    The emperor of street photography

Why? The reason why I put the crown on my own head as being the king or the emperor of street photography like Napoleon is because there’s nobody who was as curious as me!

Even when I think back and I look back at my world travels, all the knowledge that I both consumed and produced on street photography and beyond… Ultimately what I have discovered is you cannot fake passion and curiosity.

Isn’t this a radical idea… that you cannot fake passion or you cannot fake curiosity? Kind of like how you cannot fake hate.

Maybe this is where hate is interesting… Because if you really hate something with an ardent flame, that actually means you really care about it?

You do not hate anything that you don’t care for?

    What this means:

You can only hate things you care for.

    Just leave it alone

Once again, the really simple idea here guys… If there is something you really really hate, or whatever… Just leave it alone! Once again, the number one critical thing I learned about marketing is that all hate is free marketing for them.

You stupid liberals! Don’t you know that if you don’t want to get Donald Trump elected… Never say his name! Don’t say the T word! Just encourage your friends to vote for the other side.

It was funny… Because even when I was off the grid living in Vietnam at around 2016, 2017… And I cancel my phone plan and I got rid of my phone, and I didn’t check social media or the news for about two years straight… I didn’t even check my inbox for about two years, essentially what I learned was Donald Trump was the candidate Cuz all these liberals would hit on him, and give him about $1 trillion a free marketing and advertising on the television, news, magazines and news.

All hate, all news, is good news.

For example, how do you know whether you are successful or not? The second someone starts to hate you is the second it has been revealed to you that actually in fact… You matter.

Why? If nobody hates you, it means you’re a nobody. It means that you have no name.

Migrate gratitude is that ERIC KIM is definitely one of the most most hated photographer and street guitar for of all time, which is the signal that I am the most successful. Whether you like it or not.

I’m also so grateful that besides me, there is nobody else, maybe besides my friend Dylan Fan. And also the new kid on the block, I think his name is Edmond from Kuala Lumpur. Saw him on the Leica blog.

    Never water down your opinion

When are the things I am really really grateful for is how I have never violated my own personal beliefs or ethics. even some funny insider stories:

Many years ago, I offered to review the Leica deluxe camera for Leica, to help them market and promote it…

  • Don’t Sit on It

Riding in a car or driving cars is like sitting on a dick or a dildo?

Even though you are in the black Porsche 911… even in the black Lamborghini or Ferrari… You’re just sitting on a big black dick!

    Tree city

    Inflammatory language?

    Inflame?

    HYPER SOLDIER

    .

    TOO MUCH TESTOSTERONE!

     just don’t be a pussy

    homophobic?

A random thought on my mind… Why is it that modern day society, or maybe in the past… I think it is much better now, but notions of homophobia?

    homo eroticism?

One thing that was a little weird for me… Was all this new modern day homoeroticism, especially on the outlier dot NYC product page. I’m all for everyone for doing whatever they want… But showing sexy pictures of guys and butts and butt holes and stuff was a little weird for me.

I think maybe the issue is any sort of overt eroticism, whether man or woman is almost too crass. It is almost too obvious, too in your face.

A random thought… I think there was a girl in college named Amber, Asian American girl, pretty and tall… but “white-washed”– who I met in one of my sociology classes. I hung out with her a little bit after class, met her weird drama friends, visited her dorm room, and I started to get all these weird sexual advances from her, like I remember when I was sick and I texted her… And she told me “ERIC is there anything I can do for you? Because I’ll do anything for you… Anything for you… “ — clearly enough, this was actually a major turn off. Which is contrary to the generalized notion that men will get tail anyway they could get it.

Why? I think there is also this realistic for men is that we avoid potentially catching a STD, STI, etc.

Even the whole industrial capitalistic complex which essentially markets women as products, is bad.

Even the reason why encourage everyone to delete Instagram, is essentially it is child pornography. For example, I think I remember seeing a weird Olivia Rodrigo TikTok video of her singing out loud with her big red lips, and the strange thought is it looked a little weirdly sexual, or almost like fellatio?

Even taking it a step further… I remember when Britney Spears was first getting really famous, and in her music videos I think she wore some sort of sexy high school girl outfits? Once again, if you have 55-year-old unmarried men watching this videos… Isn’t that a little bit disturbing?

    Think ancient Greece

A very clarifying thing is when you read the Iliad (I love the Emily Wilson translation) what you discover about the ancient Greeks is that back then — all of these dramas revolved around women being trophies.

For example, let us say that I am Achilles, and I helped King Agamemnon sack a town. Then as a prize, to reward my valor, maybe after you take all of the spoils of war, the most beautiful women… You leave me at least one beautiful woman to take as my prize. And ideally she is beautiful, fair, and skilled at crafts.

    Even the gods were married

I think this really weird modern day American trend of people getting married, never having kids, traveling the world, going to Japan, maybe having a dog… Is a bit bizarre to me. Because even in ancient Greek times, the idea was to get married, have kids. Granted that Zeus and Hera were technically brother and sister, which is really weird, technically they had a bunch of kids who were the other gods.

And certainly there are still elements of sibling rivalry in the Iliad, and all these other dramas like Zeus sleeping around, and having illegitimate children with mortals etc.

Anyways… I think it is good for us to recenter back some practical and pragmatic notions of things.

For example, put more trust in people who have kids and children… And who got married, maybe at least once. It is not really 100% certain that they are “better“ in any regard… But if they have had kids, and children… Certainly they have had more Real life experience, lived experiences, real embodied wisdom.

And truth be told… I think the greatest virtue of having kids is it opens up your whole universe to everything! To win this your child growing so well… To develop, is to learn more about humanity, sociology,, physics, philosophy, etc.

For example, anybody who is a philosopher, who opines on humanity and things, they have no truth or voracity because they have had not the real lived experience of actually raising a child.

I think this is also where it is wise to read Nietzsche with a grain of salt… The truth of the matter is that Nietzsche just could not get laid — there are funny humorous stories that apparently his beard and mustache was so frightening, that it scared away women. and also, I think the reason he became so anti-woman and misogynistic was that he got rejected by his true love at least three times… Which I think made him sad forever.

And also… Perhaps the reason why Nietzsche is bad is because his physiology was too feeble… He was constantly sick, weak, in the century traveled all around Europe, just trying to find a climate or a place or a town that did not give him constant headaches, shortsightedness, etc.

    Rethinking sexual pleasure

Something you probably cannot do unless maybe you are google is too much pornography behavior of men. Or the ex machina movie.

For example, if you could waive a magic one… And you could instantly see what these guys do when they turn on incognito mode or private browsing mode, or their VPN … It will reveal much.

It’s funny… Even all these Apple employees who are developing the iOS software… The reason why they’re making all these private and hidden things on the iPhone photos album is because people hide naked and sexy videos or photos etc. The last thing you want to do is have a business meeting, and have your spank bank revealed to everybody… probably not good. And also funny thing… If you are really really really truly a high-level Apple CEO executive type… Or highly important notable person… Maybe the smart thing is never have a digital paper trail. Just buy the Playboy magazine print edition… because apparently it has even been leaked that brave browser, is not really 100% private even in the private mode…

Probably the most secure browser is safari… I deleted Google Chrome along time ago. even a funny story is that when I Google talk, and I pulled up my browser… And it was Safari… Apparently some of the Google Chrome engineers in the crowd gasped.

You could just troll people… I used to do this, especially when I met guys in their 20s, 30s etc.… What do you do when you turn on Google incognito mode? “And then see their eyeballs to see the gears run.

Certainly I don’t think there’s anything morally or ethically wrong with pornography. I think maybe the bigger issue is people do it in private… My simple suggestion is only consume or watch pornography if you are OK having your partner or kid knowing that you are doing it. Or like… he was making his beautiful dark twisted fantasy album, and everyone was in the studio together, Nicki Minaj would see him just watching pornography, no shame, for inspiration?

Also, a funny story is apparently one of the head BMW designers, who designed this BMW concept car which look like a big vagina… Was addicted to going to the strip club?

Then the funny question… is all inspiration good inspiration? Even if it is unethical , and also immoral?

is it possible to be a zero starch vegan?

We all know that sugar and starch makes you fat. This is why whenever you meet somebody who is really 100% vegan, they tend to be very overfat.

Maybe this is where I promote people they want to be more religious or ethical or whatever to be vegetarian not vegan. Vegans are a bunch of virtue signaling losers especially the ones that have vegan stickers on their laptops. My simple thought… If you really were vegan and truly believed in it… You would not tell anybody you are vegan, or try to force other people to convert to your weird vegan religion.

For example, this is where I think Jehovah’s Witnesses are very ethical, because they do it right! They stand in a corner, quiet, smile, dress well all happy etc. And they never tell you that you’re going to hell or whatever. To tell people that they’re going to hell is not a good motivator to have somebody convert to your religion.

A man can only have a true man friend?

Another funny thought… I remember thinking about this ever since I was a kid, the question:

Can a man truly have a real female friend, which is non-sexual, platonic in relationship

I think so! My best friend, Grace! I care about her and think about her, for no reason at all besides the fact that I care for her.

What is very interesting and telling in the Iliad is I think for ancient Greek men… The notion of a friend could only be male.

And also this is what is interesting with reading the Iliad is that women are pretty much absent. Maybe besides the goddesses, who are also very martial and good at fighting like Athena — I think an interesting thing to consider and think about is the relationship of Achilles and Patroclus.

And no no — I disqualify this notion that Achilles and Patroclus were this weird homo erotic gay lovers… I think this is overblown. I think this comes from individuals who do not understand nuance and complexity…

    **

  • Thoughts on “Cancel” Culture?

Why is it that in the past… All the rappers were super homophobic and anti-gay, but when dababy says something that even sounds a tiny bit gay… He gets canceled?

I did some research on this, and actually what he said was not really homophobic, he said something like “if you’re enjoying this song, throw your hands in the air, or even suck a dick… Anything that you would like to do!” He wasn’t actually being anti-homophobic, in fact what she was really saying was “do whatever you like and have a good time, it don’t matter what your sexual orientation is!” But I think there was some people who took random snippets of what he said, misconstrued in a weird way?

    Who can we bully now?

    Midgets? Small people? Dwarfs?

In fact I find that bullying midget is more mean, if I was born a small person, I wouldn’t want to be made fun of.

I think the strategy and the thought is don’t punk other people, if you do not want to get punked yourself.

    1. “How to Shoot Street Photography With a Flash”:

These articles should provide you with in-depth information and actionable tips if you’re interested in exploring flash street photography further.

Here are some specific quotes from Eric Kim on using flash in street photography:

    1. On the Power of Flash:
    1. On the Simplicity of Gear:
    • “The simplest, smallest, and most automatic flash, the better.” Eric Kim advocates for starting with basic, easy-to-use flash equipment, which allows photographers to focus more on capturing the moment rather than getting bogged down by technical complexities oai_citation:3,How to Shoot Flash Street Photography – ERIC KIM.
    1. On the Mental Aspect:
    • “Street photography is 80% balls and 20% skill.” This quote reflects Eric’s belief that the biggest challenge in using flash is overcoming the fear of how people will react. He stresses that confidence and mental fortitude are crucial for successfully using flash in street photography oai_citation:2,How to Shoot Street Photography With a Flash – ERIC KIM.
    1. On Close Proximity:

These quotes encapsulate Eric Kim’s approach to flash street photography, focusing on the psychological aspects, simplicity of gear, and the creative potential of using flash in street photography.

Why is flash street photography so innovative

Flash street photography is considered innovative for several reasons, primarily due to its impact on visual aesthetics, the way it interacts with subjects, and its ability to push the boundaries of traditional street photography.

    1. Visual Impact

    2. Ethical and Psychological Engagement

    • Direct Interaction with Subjects: Flash street photography often involves photographing people at close range, which can provoke immediate and spontaneous reactions from subjects. This direct interaction can result in images that feel more raw and authentic, capturing genuine expressions and emotions that might not surface in more traditional street photography oai_citation:5,How to Shoot Street Photography With a Flash – ERIC KIM.
    • Challenging Comfort Zones: Both the photographer and the subject are forced out of their comfort zones. For the photographer, using a flash in public spaces requires overcoming fear and hesitation, as it draws attention and can be perceived as intrusive. This psychological aspect adds a layer of complexity to the practice, making it not just a technical but also a mental challenge oai_citation:4,How to Shoot Street Photography With a Flash – ERIC KIM.

    3. Reinvention of Street Photography

Overall, flash street photography is innovative because it introduces a bold, confrontational element to street photography, both visually and ethically. It challenges both the photographer and the audience to see the world in a different light—quite literally—by disrupting the usual flow of candid street moments and capturing a heightened reality. This innovation keeps the genre fresh and continually evolving.

Eric Kim has written extensively on how to shoot flash street photography, providing both technical guidance and insights into the mindset required for this style of photography. Here are some of the key points from his guides:

    1. Why Use Flash?
    • Flash can add drama and detail to your images, especially in low-light situations. It helps to make your subject pop out against the background, creating a more dynamic and eye-catching photo.
    1. Gear and Settings:
    • Eric suggests starting with a simple, small flash that can be used in automatic mode, such as the built-in flash on a Ricoh GR II. He often uses wide-angle lenses (24mm-28mm on full-frame) to get close to his subjects, which is essential for the flash to be effective.
    • He advises not to worry too much about technical settings, suggesting that beginners can use “P” mode on their cameras and let the camera handle most of the adjustments. If your photos are too dark, increase the ISO; if they are blurry, adjust the flash speed or shutter speed.
    1. Technique:
    • Getting close to your subjects is crucial. This allows the flash to properly illuminate them and also makes for more engaging and intimate images. Eric recommends experimenting with different distances and compositions to see what works best.
    • He also discusses the mental aspect of using flash in street photography. It can be intimidating at first, but he encourages photographers to push past their fears, noting that most people don’t react negatively to being photographed with a flash, as they are often lost in their own thoughts or assume you are photographing something else.
    1. Ethical Considerations:
    • Eric touches on the ethics of using flash, emphasizing that it’s important to have the right mindset and not to use the flash in a way that feels invasive or disrespectful. He suggests approaching subjects with respect and being ready to explain your intentions if asked.
    1. Experimentation:
    • Eric encourages experimentation, whether with different cameras, flash settings, or even shooting in various lighting conditions. The unpredictability of flash street photography is part of its appeal, and he recommends just getting out there and trying it.

    Who wrote guides on it

Several photographers and authors have written guides and shared insights on flash street photography. Some of the notable figures include:

    1. Bruce Gilden: A Magnum photographer, Gilden is perhaps the most famous advocate of flash street photography. While he hasn’t written formal guides, his interviews, workshops, and various documentaries provide valuable insights into his aggressive style of using flash on the streets.
    2. Mark Cohen: Another pioneer of flash street photography, Mark Cohen’s work often features close-up shots with flash, creating a unique and intense style. His books, such as “Grim Street,” showcase his approach, though like Gilden, his insights are more found in interviews and analyses of his work.
    3. Eric Kim: A contemporary street photographer known for his educational content, Eric Kim has written extensively about various street photography techniques, including the use of flash. His blog contains many articles that break down different methods and ethical considerations in street photography, including flash.
    4. Joel Meyerowitz: Although not primarily known for using flash, Meyerowitz has discussed various street photography techniques, including flash, in his interviews and workshops.
    5. Zack Arias: A well-known photographer who has provided tutorials and educational content on using flash in street photography, particularly through online platforms and his blog. His approach often bridges the gap between street and editorial photography.
    6. David Hobby (Strobist): While not exclusively focused on street photography, David Hobby, through his Strobist blog, has provided extensive guides on using off-camera flash, which can be adapted to street photography.

These photographers have either directly contributed to the literature and resources on flash street photography or have been studied extensively by others interested in the field. Their works, both visual and written, are valuable resources for anyone looking to explore this style.
