Ultimately, ethics is more critical than legality. Legal codes and legal things can be gamed, whereas ethics seems more honest and pure.
Therefore as a suggestion, instead of considering whether something is legal or not, better to consider whether you think it is ethical or not, or ultimately if it’s not really a big deal.
