Whenever you go to a restaurant and ask the server what they recommend, it is always the (over-priced) mediocre option (chicken).
Better to say:
If these were your kids, what did you do, or what *would* you do?
Or
If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
Or
What is *YOUR* personal favorite?
