Creative Fertility

How do we cure, or overcome our creative impotency?

Potency. It seems that a lot of modern men suffer from impotency. Maybe it is from overwork, over stress, lack of sleep, over consumption of alcohol and marijuana, over consumption of sugar, beer, and consumption of other things which lower your testosterone. Also, modern man do not eat enough red meat, they eat too much starch and carbs. And even for protein, too much consumption of lean and tasteless meat like white chicken breast.

Fertility is a concept which pertains to both men and women. Something I’ve discovered when it comes to parenthood and becoming a new parent is that there are lots of modern couples who have issues with fertility, getting pregnant, etc. While modern society puts too much focus and blame on the women, it is a 50-50 split between the man and the woman. I wonder if a lot of couples have issues getting pregnant is also because the man does not have enough testosterone, or other hormones which govern fertility.

Anyways taking the notion back to creativity, or what I call creatism.

And when we are young and when we are kids, what is the classes that we love the most? Art class, and recess and physical education. Naturally kids love to run around and be active, climb stuff, play with biological things, eat dirt and put rocks in their mouth, and kids also love to draw, paint, sculpt, and make stuff with their hands. Every child delights in art and creating things.

But, at what point do we “grow up“, and suddenly lose our zest and our courage to create? For example, even when I teach my photography workshops, and I have a simple drawing exercise, most people hesitate before putting their pencil or pen to their pad. Why? Creative paralysis by analysis. Too much concern whether they are getting graded, and too much concern whether they do is “good“, or not.

Therefore, perhaps the first cause of creative impotence is in our sociological upbringing. That our modern notions of standardization and grading have put fear in our creative hearts. Therefore, the first step to conquer creative impotence is to the unlearn that fear, and to learn that perfection is not the goal in art. To simply create what you’re curious about is the goal.

Anti school mentality to life.
