One thing I learned which is very interesting about bodybuilders: they do not see themselves as bodybuilders, but instead, artist sculptors. And instead of sculpting a foreign piece of clay, they sculpt their bodies.

As photographers, we do something similar. We take embodied reality, and sculpt it into our photographs. The photographer as sculptor.

Also the reason why kids love Play-Doh: they can sculpt and mold it to their liking. As adults, what is our equivalent? As adults, we no longer know how to sculpt in fashion things ourselves, rather, we just seek to find it and then buy it.

For example, car design. Car design is essentially sculpture. Most of the time, our cars just sit in our driveways, and serve as a visual anchor for our eyes. And how do we choose a car design we like? The ones that we see has the most beautiful pieces of sculpture.

Also, the interior design. You spend 99% of the inside your car, looking at your interior dash. You don’t actually spend that much time outside of your car, looking at your car. The best interiors for cars seems to be Mercedes-Benz.

With sports cars, I think the best car design that looks like a piece of sculpture is the Toyota supra carbon fiber edition. White and black is the best contrast.

Yeezy sneakers as Lamborghinis for your feet

Why did the Yeezy sneaker get so popular? Because of the radically different silhouette of the Yeezy 350 design.

Even Kanye West said it himself that that he aspired Yeezy sneakers to be like Lamborghinis for your feet.

And this is why nowadays sneakers are so popular, because kids can no longer afford cars and also do not have interest in cars. Rather, sneakers are just cars for your feet. Sneakers are sculpture, that you also happen to wear.

The most interesting fashion is the one that changes the shape of your body

For example, sunglasses are interesting because it changes the way that your face and your eyes look. The same goes with clothing: the most interesting types of fashion is the ones that make you look less human.

And when it comes to fashionable people, the most fascinating people to look at are the ones that require a double take full in that they look a little unusual and out of place. Also, the best colors in fashion are the ones which are most unnatural to nature. Hyper orange, hyper yellow, etc.

To me, ergonomics is very important. For example, whenever I go to an Apple Store and fondle the products, I’m trying to figure out whether it feels good to my hand. Whether the haptic response is good, and whether as a piece of sculpture, I find it beautiful.

Why do fashion photographers love their job?

Because they see their models as dynamic pieces of sculpture. The best sculpture is human.
