VIRTUAL REALITY is (Finally) Prime Time.

Virtual reality is finally here, and it is damn good:

What I am witnessing

I still remember when I was at Q-ZAR as a kid, and I did my first virtual reality simulation. It was cool as shit.

Virtual Reality has been waaaay over-hyped the last decade or two, but now … it is finally here, and it *IS* already prime time! A pretty basic $1000 Gaming Computer PC can run it, and now the Oculus Quest 2 is out, this seems like a good option as well.

A less materialistic society?

In VR, you no longer need fancy cars, clothes, watches, homes and stuff. You can just make it all and design it all in VR. The uber-democratic platform (like in Ready Player One). This is the gist:

It doesn’t matter how rich or poor you are, as long as you have merit, hard work and effort and skills … your race, ethnicity, social class, etc doesn’t matter in VR.

Similar vibes to the early days of computing; this interesting new pseudo-utopia!

Why is VR pseudo-utopia?

Reasons:

  1. Facebook is now the corporation which controls all of our future VR experiences. Kind of like the evil mega-corp in Ready Player One (although more smiley)
  2. Those with better equipment and setups will have a small edge when it comes to gaming, etc. But this difference isn’t gonna be *THAT* huge (good thing).
  3. Embodied reality is still superior to virtual and online reality.

Why this is so exciting to me

Virtual reality; no longer a pipe dream. It is finally here, and it is damn good. No hiccups. Can also run extremely well on 16” MacBook Pro Touch Bar maxed out. What new futures exist for VR, art, creativity?

Also, VR as Computing 3.0. Virtual reality *beyond* silly video games … but a brave new way to engage with creativity and the limitless notions of human creativity!

WHY VR?

Until you have tried OCULUS RIFT S … you got no idea:
