Question:
“I became a photographer because I cannot draw”
This is BS. But a lot of photographers say this.
My thought:
Most photographers are just painters with low self esteem and ego.
For example Henri Cartier Bressson: started off as a painter, and later gave up the camera. Why? My theory:
He was a closet painter, who secretly wanted to be a painter the whole time … but unfortunately became “too good” at photography.
If we look at the work of HCB, he was enamored by painting and painters. Ultimately we cannot see HCB as a guide because he never truly believed in photography. He was like the Plato for photography.
Better guides
Richard AVEDON. Handsome, great with people, and belief in the camera.
