What is an ‘Idea’?

An idea as image:

What is an idea?

The Ancient Greek idea refers to look, appearance, and form.

Even more old-school is the notion ‘eidos‘, which comes from ‘weyd-‘ which means “to see”.

So ultimately, an idea is related “to see”.

But when we think about an ‘idea’ in today’s world, we think of an abstract notion. Is this due to the tyranny of Plato?

Perhaps we should move AWAY from the abstract notion of an ‘idea’, and perhaps share more of what we believe, what we think, and what we personally see!

The photographer-philosopher

Perhaps us as a photographer-philosopher, we photograph what we see. Everything we see and photograph is an “image-idea”. It is a concept.

But at the same time, an image is a representation of a thing that exists in the real world.

But let us move away from the abstract notion. Let us make it super simple:

All photos are (physical and embodied) ideas in reality.
