Life and Death in Photography

In photography we are simultaneously capturing life AND death.

Dead photographer’s club

When looking at the past work of dead photographers:

The photographers are dead, and so are their subjects.

Also during my short tenure as a photographer — I have already made photos of people who I learned (afterwards) have also died. Like the man below with the orange beard and blue eyes:

One day you and your subjects will both die.

I think my obsession with ‘memento mori‘ (remember you will and MUST die) is quite useful. Why? It gives me ‘memento vivere‘ (remember to live!). We need the yin and the yang:

To think about DEATH and LIFE

We make things eternal

My impetus behind #cindyproject:

To eternalize my love for Cindy, and to encourage others to do the same for their loved ones.

I will die. And so will Cindy. And the viewers of my photos will also die.

What is the point of photography if we will all die?

My thought:

Life is more fun when we are being creative, active, and making art!

I know that the worst state in life is to be bored. Photography, art, travel, non-permenant living, and visual experimentation makes life sooooo much sweeter.
