Beautiful Aesthetics in Photography

I really love the iPhone Pro for the ultra wide angle lens, and ability to share your perspective.

But the biggest problem:

Phone cameras don’t have a beautiful aesthetic.

I really want to make the iPhone my only camera

iPhone Pro selfie in ideal lighting. Skin detail good, but not great.

This is tricky to me, because I think you can make great photos on a phone camera. But what is lacking? Dynamic range, detail, and a pleasing “look”.

For example I quite like this image above, and think the composition is good.

However when I look at the photo, it doesn’t have that aesthetic “oomph” I’m looking for. A closer look:

We can see the uglier pixelation of the grey in the sky, and the details of the edges of the man.

iPhone Pro vs RICOH GR III

I believe RICOH GR III (high contrast black and white JPEG) has beautiful aesthetics. Same goes with RICOH GR II (JPEG color positive film preset).
